When should I start thinking about studying abroad?
The sooner you start planning your study abroad experience the better! Before you study abroad you need to be aware of the required courses you need to graduate and what courses are available in the study abroad program. By planning early you can avoid scheduling problems for your semester abroad and your last semesters at Loyola. You should also plan early to give you enough time to research the multitude of potential programs and choose the right one for you.

How long should I study abroad?
While even just a few days abroad can contribute to your academic and personal development, students suggest that the longer the experience, the more beneficial.
Will studying abroad delay my graduation?
No. As long as your plan early everything should fall into place. If you think time is running out, you should contact CIE now to determine potential options for you.
Will my credits transfer?
Credits taken abroad should transfer to Loyola and be counted towards your degree but you have to plan in advance, select appropriate courses and obtain approval.
- For Loyola University New Orleans programs, you will receive Loyola credits which will be calculated into your GPA.
- For non-Loyola programs, you must obtain approval on a Request for Approval to Study Abroad on a non-Loyola program before you apply to the program.
How do I fund my study abroad experience?
You should be able to use your federal aid on most study abroad programs. Your Loyola aid can only be used on Loyola programs. Unfortunately you cannot use your Loyola aid on non-Loyola programs, but many programs have scholarships and there are a number of scholarship programs.
