International Student Scholarship Banquet 2010
You are invited to the 8th Annual International Student Scholarship Banquet featuring the Philippines!
Come eat Filipino cuisine, watch traditional bamboo dancing (called “tinikling” or the movements of a large bird in the rice fields), take a lesson from the dancers, and bid on beautiful international crafts from around the world!
WHEN: Friday, March 19th, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: St. Charles Room, Danna Student Center
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: The keynote speaker will be Loyola’s own Dr. Al Alcazar who is from the Philippines. Dr. Alcazar came to the U.S. in the early 1970s as a political refugee from the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and has been active in peace and social/ecological justice work for the past 38 years. He has been at Loyola University New Orleans for 25 years. Dr. Alcazar has received SGA’s Distinguished Community Service Award (1993), the BSU’s Outstanding Service to the African American Community Service Award (1996), the Martin Luther King Committee’s Outstanding Service to the Dream Award (2000), and Loyola University’s Integritas Vitae Award (2004).

At the Banquet, Alcazar will present a slideshow, speak about the Philippines and about his work in New Orleans.
All proceeds will benefit the International Student Scholarship Fund. The Fund was created to help international students on F-1 student visas who develop a financial need after they arrive because they are ineligible for any need based aid or U.S. government financial aid.
We look forward to seeing you at the Banquet!
