Young Consumer Advocate Program

Job Title: Curriculum Development Coordinator

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Purpose: The Young Consumer Advocate Program has been approved by the State Board of Education as a provider for instructional information to high school students in two areas: 1) understanding interest, avoiding and eliminating credit card debt; and, 2) bankruptcy. As a companion piece to these presentations, the summer intern will develop a set of lessons plans and materials for the classroom instructors use to reinforce the learning concepts presented by the BBB staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become familiar with materials used in presentations to high school students.
  • Develop a set of lesson plans and handouts for use in the classroom following a presentation by BBB staff.
  • Research other materials and websites that would be useful in program development.

Skills Required:

  • Strong verbal and written skills a must.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently a must.
  • Some consumer protection knowledge helpful.
  • Good organizational skills.

Salary and Time Requirement:

  • Gross salary before taxes: $2,500
  • 8-week internship/35 hours per week
  • Workdays each week: Monday-Friday
  • Hours of each workday: 10:00-5:00
  • Beginning no later than June 9; ending no later than August 8

*Interns must be enrolled undergraduates who have completed their freshman year and will be returning to college full-time in the fall.
