Jewish Family Service ExxonMobil Summer Intern:
Development, Marketing and Special Events
Development and Marketing intern will be supervised by Development
Director and
Marketing Director of Jewish Family Service (JFS) – 2008 Summer
Responsibilities of the intern:
1. Assistance with agency annual campaign activities
• Research prospects
• Follow up with past donors
• Recommendations to build the campaign
• Report on findings
2. Preparation for JFS’ 2012 activities as the host city for North
American
professional conference as well as work toward the local agency’s
100th Anniversary,
to include archive and scrapbook development, organization of agency
photos and
press clips, revise tapes into CD, and research agency history for the
Centennial
event planning.
3. Special event development activities which may include planning events,
gift entry into Raiser’s Edge software (training to be provided),
event correspondence with guests and sponsors.
4. Written communication which may include pieces for agency newsletter,
local/area
newspapers and website.
5. Development of e-newsletter.
6. Assistance in development of grant proposals.
7. Internet research of potential major donors, corporations and foundations.
8. Liaison to local congregations and organizations about fundraising
and marketing
activities.
9. Attendance at staff, board of directors and committee meetings to
learn about the
agency, fundraising activities of a non-profit and marketing in the
community.
Work hours:
Hours will be Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Fridays
from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with
one hour for lunch. Some flexibility may be required if occasional special
events occur during evenings or weekends. Advance notice will be given
well ahead of any such events. Intern will provide his/her transportation
to agency and any special events. Internship may begin as early as
first week of June.
Opportunities:
The intern will gain experience about fundraising and multimedia marketing
in a non-profit social service agency. Project management, special event
planning, marketing campaigns, and experience with Microsoft and fundraising
software are some skills to which the intern will receive increased
exposure. Interactions with our board of directors, staff, volunteers
and donors will provide networking opportunities for the intern.
Since the intern will be working in the agency’s 96th year, it will be an important part of his or her responsibility to gather research, as mentioned above, to be used in many ways during the agency’s 100th year activities...which will already be in the planning stages.
Evaluation:
The intern will be required to keep a log to document the work experiences
throughout the
internship period. Such a journal should include responsibilities, outcomes,
work samples and progress on projects. The Development and Marketing
Directors will provide direct supervision of intern’s work and
will conduct periodic evaluation throughout the internship period as
well as set meetings times to go over deadlines which may be set on
various projects.
Requirements:
1. Current full-time enrollment in an accredited university, planning
to return to
college full time in Fall, 2008. Preference will be given to sophomores
and
juniors.
2. Excellent verbal and written skills.
3. Experience with MS Office software to include Word, Excel, Outlook,
Power
Point, and databases.
4. Teamwork skills as demonstrated through leadership activities and/or
work with
civic, academic or other community organizations.
5. Some flexibility may be required with occasional night and weekend
programs
(advance notice provided).
6. As the work of JFS includes social service counseling, intern MUST
sign
confidentiality agreement prior to beginning work at the agency. In
addition,
intern must agree to a background check.
