Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest Offers Volunteer Experience to Loyola University New Orleans Graduates Recruiter available to meet with students on campus next week
New Orleans, LA– Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest is coming to Loyola University New Orleans next week to share how graduates can volunteer one year of their lives to make a world of difference in 19 communities in the Northwest. Rachel Forte, a recent Jesuit Volunteer (JV) in Montana, will be on campus Monday, November 30th at 6:30 pm in the Magis Lounge and Tuesday, December 1st to discuss her experiences and answer students’ questions about the opportunities to serve as a JV next year in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
9 Loyola University New Orleans graduates have become JVs in the Northwest since 2000, including 1 graduate who is currently serving in Boise, Idaho. These JVs are part of the more than 6,000 volunteers who have been placed by JVC Northwest since its inception in 1956. JVC Northwest has seen a 71 percent increase in the number of volunteers serving over the last two years.
This year, 123 total volunteers are serving in the Northwest and new houses were opened in Missoula, Montana, Spokane, Washington, and Gresham, Oregon to house the additional volunteers.
“I’m excited to kick off my second year of recruiting for JVC Northwest to share the amazing opportunities available for Loyola University New Orleans grads,” says Rachel Forte, JVC Northwest recruiter. “I hope my visit with students is the start of an exciting journey for each of them.”
The priority deadline to be considered for preferred placement in the next volunteer year is March 1, 2010, however, applications are accepted through mid-July. To learn more about JVC Northwest, please call (503) 335-8202 or visit www.jvcnorthwest.org.
