Magis dinner

Date: Friday, December 4, 2009

Time: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Location: St. Charles Room, Danna Student Center

The Office of Mission and Ministry invites the Loyola community to its Magis Celebration, an evening honoring the university’s Ignacio Volunteer Program and other related international programs and projects. It takes place on Friday, Dec. 4, in the Danna Student Center St. Charles Room. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with drinks and a silent auction, and dinner follows at 7. A donation of $20 is recommended. All donations will support the volunteers and their service immersion trips.

The Ignacio Volunteer Program provides international volunteer service opportunities for Loyola students while exposing them to pressing economic and sociological issues in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Participants in all service trips travel as one volunteer community. The trips are rooted in an Ignatian spiritual foundation of finding God in all things and include ongoing spiritual reflection within the volunteer groups and on the trips themselves. Fundraising for the trips is done individually and by the Office of Mission and Ministry.

The theme for this year’s celebration is Caribbean Christmas and features food, music, slide slows and presentations on the volunteer service programs. Guests will be seated with former Ignacio volunteers who will share their experiences of international service. The silent auction will feature donated gifts, student artwork and special items from Jamaica and Belize.
