The Rev. Thomas H. Stahel, S.J.
The Rev. Thomas H. Stahel, S.J., is pastor and superior at both Jesuit parishes in New Orleans; Holy Name of Jesus and Immaculate Conception. He has previously served as managing editor and then as executive editor of America magazine, assistant provincial and provincial of the New Orleans province of the Society of Jesus, associate novice director at the Jesuit novitiate in Paraguay, and novice director at the Jesuit novitiate in Nigeria. While at America, he wrote numerous articles, columns, interviews, and reviews.
He has a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from Yale, and a doctorate in English from Johns Hopkins University. He studied philosophy in preparation for the priesthood at Saint Louis University, and theology at Woodstock College, where he received a master’s degree in theology.
Previously he has served on the Boards of Trustees at Spring Hill College and the University of Scranton, and is currently a member of these other boards as well as Loyola’s: Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; Jesuit College Preparatory, Dallas; Good Shepherd School, New Orleans.
