Gregory Waldrop, S.J., earned his B.A. from Yale University, graduate theology degrees from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and Boston College, a master’s in journalism from Northwestern, and his Ph.D. in art history from the University of California, Berkeley. A native of Dallas, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1989 and was ordained priest ten years later. Prior to his arrival at Loyola in 2014, Fr. Waldrop was assistant professor of art history and executive director of university art collections at Fordham University in New York. At Loyola he teaches a wide range of courses, with a specialization in the art and architecture of Renaissance Italy. He has served as chair of the Department of Art and is a member of the Standing Committee for the Loyola Core. Fr. Waldrop was appointed Rector of the Loyola Jesuit Community in 2019.
