Claiborne and Orleans Avenues, 24 September 24, 2005 3pm.
Sixty-three-year-old Joseph Lewis receives three MREÕs and a few bottles of water from passing Guardsman. Residents have complained that local police have told them to evacuate, that they are a burden on the weakened supply system. The National Guardsman, they say, are gladly passing out food and water to whoever needs it. Many citizens are complaining that very little if any relief has reached the city. ÒThe Salvation Army comes around with sandwiches and cold water. There is no Red Cross, nor FEMA, Just a few church based organizations that we are very grateful for,Ó said Lewis. Mr. Lewis lived his entire life in the Lafitte Housing Development in the background. Says, ÒThat old project isnÕt going any whereÉneither am IÓ.
