DESCRIPTION: Santa at Roll Call. 24 September 2005, 12 noon Though the Christmas season may be many weeks away, it seems Santa made an appearance at roll call for New Orleans Police Departments 6th District, which is temporarily housed in the Yard and Garden section of the Tchoupitoulas Street Wal-Mart. Referred to as ÔFort ApacheÕ by the men and women of the 6th, the Christmas decoration was dragged back in from the sidewalk, and Òno one wanted to throw out Santa ClausÓ. Lt. Rannie Mushat (center) and Sgt. W. Davis heard how their officers were existing off of the kindness of strangers, that citizens had offered them home cooked meals and an Officer T. Bailey reported a complete stranger offering to pay for his meal at an out of parish Mc DonaldÕs restaurant. Officers with no home to return to, can use the tents in the background. But the biggest complaint that was heard was regarding chow. While Creole enhanced MREÕs have replaced much of the Ôfine diningÕ that the city is known for, they seem to tie you up from the belly button down.
