TWO & THREE YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS  

    Eligibility Requirements
 

The following eligibility requirements apply for scholarship consideration selections:

1.  Character.    Be of good moral character, as evidenced by participation as a member of his/her home community and the institution where enrolled.

2.  Citizenship.   Be a citizen of the United States.

3.  Age.   Be at least 17 years of age by 1 October of the year of enrollment as a scholarship cadet.  Be under 27 years of age on 30 June of the calendar year in which eligible for appointment as a Second Lieutenant, except that up to three years extension may be granted for active duty service.

4.  Motivation.   Exhibit a strong desire to obtain a commission and baccalaureate degree.  Officer Potential. Leadership potential will be emphasized as a very important factor to be considered for selection and continuance of scholarship. Applicant must possess officer potential as evidenced by appearance, personal physical fitness, personality, academic performance and extracurricular activities.

5.  Medical.   Be medically qualified for initial enrollment into ROTC. Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) will determine the medical status IAW the standards of Chapter 2, Army Regulation 40-501.

6.  Curriculum.  Be enrolled in or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student in any major course of study, except Theology, at a baccalaureate degree granting institution, beginning the effective date of the scholarship.

7.  Academic.  Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 both at the time of application and if selected as a winner, at contracting. An enrolled applicant must have at least a 3.0 ROTC cumulative GPA.  Three-year applicants must have achieved a qualifying SAT score of 920 or higher or an ACT score of 19 or higher.  Two-year applicants do not require a SAT/ACT score.

8.  Physical Aptitude.   Scholarship winners must pass the Army Physical Fitness Test consisting of pushups, sit-ups and a 2 mile run with a minimum of 50 points in each event during the first  semester of scholarship benefits.
 

 

    Service Obligation

If selected for a U.S. Army ROTC scholarship and accepted, individuals are required
to:

1.   Execute DA Form 597-3, Army Senior Officer's Training Corps Scholarship Cadet Contract.  This contract requires repayment to the U.S. government for all financial aid received if an individual fails to comply with the terms of the contract. This repayment may be monetary or in the form of enlisted service. The choice rests with the Army and not the scholarship cadet.

2.   Enlist in the U.S. Army Reserve for a period of eight years.

3.   Execute a loyalty oath to permit participation in the scholarship program.

4.   Complete a National Agency Check (NAC) as prescribed in Army Regulation 380-67 immediately upon enrollment as a cadet. Request for initial or revalidated (if required) NAC will be initiated by the PMS.

5.   Complete the ROTC Basic Course by the end of the first year of the scholarship if offered a three-year scholarship; this means taking MS I and MS II in the sophomore year.  If offered a two-year scholarship, individual must be eligible to enter the ROTC Advanced Course by the effective date of the scholarship. Individuals who do not have placement credit for the Basic Course (Junior ROTC, veteran, member of Reserve Component, etc.) will be required to attend the ROTC Basic Camp during the summer to validate the scholarship before beginning the junior year. Validation of the scholarship requires successful completion of Basic Camp with a minimum qualifying score without waiver.

6.  Accept a commission in the U.S. Army upon completion of the required academic and military courses.  If a graduate is commissioned a Regular U.S. Army officer and the commission is terminated before the sixth anniversary of the initial date of appointment, a Reserve commission must be accepted, if offered, and retention in the U.S. Army Reserve or U.S. Army National Guard at least until the eighth anniversary of the original appointment will be required.

7.   Serve on active duty three to four years followed by service in the Army National Guard (ARNG) or United States Army Reserve (USAR) or the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR) for the remainder of the eight-year obligation or serve eight years in an ARNG or USAR Troop Program Unit which includes a three- to six-month active duty period for initial training.
 

 

    Veteran Eligibility Notes
 

1.   Age Requirement.   An extension of up to three years may be granted for previous active duty service. The length of extension cannot exceed the actual period of service, e.g., with two years active service the applicant must be under 29 years on 30 June of the calendar year eligible for commissioning. The maximum extension is three years which means the applicant must be under 30 years old on 30 June of the year of appointment as a commissioned officer.

2.   Reserve Component.   Individuals currently assigned to a Reserve Component unit of any U.S. Armed Service may compete for an Army ROTC scholarship. If selected for a scholarship, it is the individual's responsibility, however, not the Army's, to take appropriate action through the Reserve commander to be released. Recipients of these awards are not permitted to participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) which permits membership in both the Senior ROTC program and U.S. Army Reserve/Army National Guard.

3.   Active Duty Personnel.   Individuals currently serving on active duty in any of the U.S. Armed Services may compete for Army ROTC scholarships. Their present enlistment,  however, must expire prior to the fall of the year of enrollment as scholarship cadets. Army ROTC cannot authorize early discharge for the purpose of enrolling as a scholarship cadet. There is a separate scholarship program for Army active duty members who will not be eligible for separation until June 1 or later of the year they would be enrolling as a scholarship cadet.     So How Do I Apply?
 

You must complete the following documents and submit them to Major Moreland at the Orleans Army ROTC Battalion recruiting office:

1.  Scholarship Application.  (Cadet Command Form 166-Test-R)(Click on the Form to download). (Instructions for filling out form)

2.  Projected Plan on how you are going to complete your degree (Cadet Command Form 104-R).

3.  An Official Transcript from all colleges and universities you attended.

4.  A DD Form 214 (If applicable)

5.  A waiver packet (If required)

6.  An Email address (Not required to apply but will assist in processing your scholarship application)
