To date, the endowed fund has reached over $12,000!   We are asking you to join us in building this fund to $20,000 to bring an eniment ecologist to campus to deliver the 1st Moore Lecture in Ecology.  This lecture series will not only bring distinction to the Department of Biological Sciences, but will develop ecology as a major field of study here at Loyola.

Professor Walter G. Moore served as a faculty member in the  Department of Biological Sciences for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1979.    Dr. Moore was a warm, engaging, and dedicated professor in our department who was known as "the ecologist" at Loyola during his career here.  His general biology, zoology, comparative anatomy, embryology, and ecology courses were enjoyed by literally thousands Loyola undergraduates, who then went on to careers of their own in the health professions, education, and environmental biology.  His love of ecology, and especially of the biology of fairy shrimps, was shared with many students in field trips to our local bayous, swamps, lakes and marshes.

When Dr. Moore passed away in 1999, his family, friends, and current Biology faculty thought it fitting to establish an endowed fund that will support an annual Lecture in Ecology in his name.   This lectureship will allow us to bring eminent ecologists to our campus to enrich the lives of our current students and to celebrate the memory of Dr. Moore's contributions to ecology at Loyola.
